Qualifications & Eligibility

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY

The athlete must have competed in a regional tournament of the region they represent.

The athlete may qualify through a regional qualification process set by the regional AKYSB team such as tryouts or qualitative selection.

Participating athletes must be Ismaili Muslims, or spouses or children of Ismaili Muslims.

The United States Ismaili Games is open to all Ismaili Muslims residing in the United States and non-Ismaili spouses and children of Ismaili Muslims residing in the United States of America

SPORT ELIGIBILITY

An athlete can compete in one sport only, however they may compete in multiple disciplines within a sport if they qualify for their region (e.g. singles and doubles for racquet sports and different events for track and field)

REGIONAL ELIGIBILITY

Participants must be a current resident of the region for which they are playing.

If a member is part of district jamat the athlete can participate with the closer region with both Regional Chairs’ approval.

If a participant has moved to another region, they are considered to be a resident of the new region after 6 months. After 6 months they may ONLY play for the region of which they are now a resident.

If a participant has moved between the 6-month transit time, they may be eligible to play for region they choose.

Students attending college outside of their region or professionals working outside of their region may choose EITHER to play for the region in which they reside OR for the region in which they are attending college or working.

Participants MUST choose one region, and can only participate in ONE regional tournament.

Participants must be able to provide proper government issued ID to identify their place of residence.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age limit for athletes is 16 years by the First day of the Sports Tournament (Thursday, November 26, 2015).

All participants under the age of 18 (as of Thursday, November 16, 2015) are considered minors and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The athlete must be able to present proper government issued ID (drivers license, passport, or birth certificate) to identify his or her age.

Exceptionality Clause: A professional athlete under the age of 16 may participate provided the following conditions can be met. (1) An outside association professionally recognizes the athlete. (2) A parent or legal guardian accompanies the athlete. To request an exception, please submit the Youth Exception Form.

THE QUALIFICATION PROCESS

The qualification process will be managed in each region, and each will follow the same process. Please visit the regional web pages for more information on the regional try-outs.

If ANY of the above guidelines are violated, the participant will immediately be disqualified from participating in the tournament.

If the participant was part of a team and the team no longer meets the minimum number of players required to start a game, the team will NOT be allowed to add an additional player and the entire team may be disqualified from participating in the tournament.
